Notes |
- Research seems to show two more siblings. A Helen Mary Neame and a James Neame.
James is thought to be born in 1854. There are no New Zealand birth records for a James in 1854.
Helen is though to have been born at the same time (1852) as Jessie Sarah Neame or maybe the year after.
I have not found any records for a Helen Neame in marriage or death. So far electoral rolls have no shown a Helen Neame.
There is no given names on the birth record for 1852, the year that Jessie Sarah Neame used throughout her life.
In the absence of historic records for Helen, I would tend to believe that Helen didn't exist or Helen was Jessie Sarah Neame.
This timeline might be a clue to her life growing up:
1854: Jessie Sarah Neame was only 15 months old when her mother died.
1855: John Edward Neame (Jessie Sarah's father) married Rebecca Lyne. Jessie was now 2 and half years.
1867: Jessie now had 6 half brothers and sisters. She was now 14 years and 4 months.
1867: Jessie Sarah's step mother was committed to an asylum and he father (John Edward Neame) left for the Gold Field on the West Coast.
1869: Jessie Sarah Neame arrived in Melbourne Australia at the age of 16 years and 6 months. Arriving from Plymouth and it seems was traveling alone.
1871: Jessie Sarah Neame married Gustav Wilhelm Hillbrich. she was 18 and a half years.
It is assumed that some stage Jessie Sarah left New Zealand and went to England. It could have been to visit relatives. It could have been just to get away from a her life in New Zealand. It is odd that Jessie Sarah Neame went to Melbourne Australia instead of returning to New Zealand.
