    James Stiles (1888-1944)
Mr James Stiles, managing-director of the Grand Theatres Co, Ltd, died at his home at South Perth yesterday after an illness of some months. The late Mr Stiles, who was in the estate agency business in South Perth where he also conducted the Gaiety Theatre, entered the city cinema industry about 1931 when he became managing-director of the Grand Theatre Co. Ltd. Over the years he successfully expanded the company's interests to three Perth cinemas and one at Fremantle. At the same time he in creased his own suburban holdings to three South Perth theatres. He was president of the WA Exhibitors' Association and past president of the Reelers' Fraternity. A cricket and football enthusiast in his youth, he had golf and fishing as his sports in recent years. He was a
vice-president of the WA Cricket Association. A foundation member of the Perth YMCA for which he played cricket in 1909, he was a member of the YMCA War Service Appeal Committee. He was also a member of the State War Loan Campaign C0mmittee. The late Mr Stiles, whose funeral will take place tomorrow morning, left a widow and two children.
